New build, replacement or repair. Timber, uPVC or aluminium, depending on what suits the house and what you want to spend.
I fit windows and doors. In Lüneburg and around.
In the old town I rarely find an opening with a right angle. It was built by eye, and the houses have settled since. I measure every opening myself and fit the frame to what I find.
The hardware decides
A window is not finished once it is in. Tilt-and-turn hardware, seals and keeps have to be adjusted, otherwise it draughts again within a year.
Doors
Front door, internal door or security door. I take the measurements, fit the jamb and adjust the leaf until it drops into the lock without being pushed.
What I do
Windows and doors, from the survey to the final adjustment. If a repair will do, I tell you that instead of selling you a new window.
Tap a row for detail
New windows in new builds and in existing fabric. I take the old ones out and dispose of them. Sealing runs in three planes to RAL practice: vapour-checked inside, insulated in the middle, weathertight outside.
Front door, room door, jamb. On older openings I usually rework the frame before the leaf closes cleanly. Otherwise it starts to bind after a few weeks.
If the sash binds or a draught comes through, it is usually the hardware or the seal. That can be put right. You do not need a new window for it.
I come round, measure, and tell you what I think makes sense. Even when that means you have less work done than you planned.
Non-standard sizes, crooked reveals, arches, conservation requirements. Here I take every measurement separately, because extrapolating gets you nowhere.
Once a year I check seals, hardware and closing pressure. Hardware that has been reset lasts longer than hardware left binding for years.

On the agreed date. I adjust it, show you how it works, and take my waste with me.
